Nick clegg

COMPOSER< SOUND ENGINEER & PRODUCER

Nick Clegg, BSc (Hons), is the founder of Sound Factory Tokyo and, first and foremost, a musician and composer. He began playing keyboards and composing from an early age, developing a deep musical sensibility that would later shape his approach to sound and production.

Nick’s path into engineering grew out of a desire to record and produce his own music. This led him to formal training at the School of Sound Recording in Manchester, followed by a Bachelor of Science degree in Sound and Video Technology from the University of Salford. His studies covered sound design, recording and mixing, spatial audio, and advanced audio production for film, broadcast, and digital media.

Between 2007 and 2012, Nick toured internationally as a keyboard player with The Commitments, further grounding his work in performance and musical collaboration. Since relocating to Tokyo in 2013, he has expanded his creative output across composition, sound design, production sound, and post-production, while also performing on J-pop recordings. Another career highlight during his time in Japan was being invited by Nathan East to play keyboards on a track for a K-pop artist.

Nick has worked on commercials, documentaries, events, and feature films, contributing to projects for clients including TOHO, Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, DAZN, Disney, BBC, Warner Bros Discovery, Red Bull, Panasonic, Sony, the Olympic Channel, NBC, Apple, WWE, and more. Alongside his engineering work, he continues to compose music for commercials and media, with credits for brands such as Nissan, Yamaha, and Amphion.

In 2017, Nick founded Sound Factory Tokyo as a space where musical instinct and technical precision meet. His work is driven by the belief that great sound starts with musical understanding, and that technology should serve emotion, story, and performance above all else.
