Nick Clegg — Composer, Sound Engineer & Producer

Nick is the founder of Sound Factory Tokyo and, first and foremost, a musician. He started playing keyboards and composing from an early age, and that musical instinct has been at the heart of his work ever since.

His path into engineering grew naturally out of wanting to record and produce his own music, which led him to formal training at the School of Sound Recording in Manchester and a Bachelor of Science in Sound and Video Technology from the University of Salford — covering sound design, recording and mixing, spatial audio, and advanced production for film, broadcast, and digital media.

Between 2007 and 2012, Nick toured internationally as a keyboard player with The Commitments, an experience that grounded his work in real performance and collaboration. Since relocating to Tokyo in 2013, he has built a career spanning composition, sound design, production sound, and post-production, including being invited by Nathan East to play keys on a track for a K-pop artist, one of those career moments that still makes for a good story.

He has worked on commercials, documentaries, and feature films for clients including TOHO, Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Disney, BBC, Warner Bros Discovery, Sony, Apple, Red Bull, Nissan, Yamaha, and more.

In 2017 he founded Sound Factory Tokyo around a simple belief: that technology should serve emotion, story, and performance — not the other way around.
